Built for the Spotlight -
Our Backstage Story
We Saw the Mess, So We Made the Blueprint
Backstage was born out of frustration – frustration with a beauty industry that talks big about empowerment, but rarely shows up for the working makeup artist. The kind of artist who hauls kits across town, juggles last-minute bookings, spends hours replying to flaky DMs, and still ends up chasing payments at the end of the month. Sound familiar?
We saw the gap – and addressed the issues.
Backstage isn’t just another booking app. It’s a platform designed specifically for professional makeup artists and the clients who respect their craft. Built to eliminate the chaos, cut the noise, and connect serious talent with people who actually want to book it.
We’re here to make freelancing feel less like a hustle and more like the powerful career path it really is. Artists get verified,
featured, and fully in control of their calendars and income. Clients get real, reliable access to some of the best MUAs in the game – without second-guessing if someone’s legit.
Whether it’s bridal glam, SFX magic, red carpet moments or a personal glow-up, Backstage brings together the people
doing the work and the people who value it. No middlemen, no awkward introductions, no scrolling for hours just to find someone who actually shows up on time.
We’re not here to blend in. We’re here to raise the bar.
Founder. Beauty Nerd. Booking Queen.
Hi, my name is Charlotte and I didn’t set out to build a business in the makeup
industry, but looking back… it was always meant to be.
I started my career in branding and marketing, landing a temp job in Leeds that
quickly turned into an Account Executive role at a Creative Agency. I was 23,
making £13K a year, and honestly? I felt like a Baller. That job turned into a 7-year
rollercoaster where I worked on campaigns for brands I’d obsessed over: Benefit Cosmetics, Charlotte Tilbury, Adidas, Starbucks… the list goes on.
I learned how to build brands that sell. How to pitch ideas that land. How to walk into rooms full of sharp suits and bold lips and make my voice heard. And along the
way, I worked with some of the most talented freelancers out there… makeup artists, photographers, creatives – who were killing it behind the scenes, but rarely
getting the credit, respect, or pay they deserved.
I’ve seen firsthand what it’s like to hustle in this Industry and still be treated like it’s “not a real job.” I’ve heard the “can you do it for exposure?” line more times than I can count. As a trained Make Up Artist, and client who books MUAs regularly, for events, shoots, and nights out, I was constantly dealing with flaky DMs, unclear pricing, and unreliable bookings.
So, I created Backstage – not just because I could, but because I had to.
This isn’t just another beauty app. It’s a platform built with purpose – for the MUAs who take their craft seriously, and the clients who expect more than chaos and guesswork. It’s where professional makeup artists get the visibility they deserve, and clients get to book confidently without the back-and-forth BS.
I didn’t want to launch another makeup line. I wanted to create something that actually changes things. A tool. A space. A movement.
Let’s do things differently. Let’s do them properly.
